The Prohibition era produced many very nice cocktails. One of these is the Mary Pickford, named
The Mary
Pickford Cocktail is a Prohibition Era Cocktail made with white rum, fresh pineapple juice, grenadine, and Maraschino liqueur. It is served shaken and chilled, often
with a Maraschino Cherry. Named
for Canadian-American film actress Mary Pickford (1892–1979), it is said to have been created for
her in the 1920s by either Eddie Woelke or Fred Kaufmann at the
Hotel Nacional de Cuba on
a trip she took to Havana with Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks.
The Mary Pickford is not just one of these "wham Bam Thank you Maam" cocktails thrown together at the moment, it has stood the test of time to still be a really great cocktail. it is a form of the daiquiri, but it has a very unique flavor that is absolutely wonderful.
The Original Mary Pickford
- 2 oz. White Rum
- 1 1/2 oz. Fresh Pineapple Juice
- 1/4 oz. Grenadine
- 1/4 oz. Maraschino Liqueur
Place all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake until fully chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a Maraschino Cherry.
Bahama Bob's Modern Mary Pickford
- 2 oz. Diplomatico Blanco Rum
- 2 oz. Fresh Pineapple Juice
- 1/4 oz. Pomegranate Liqueur
- 1/4 oz. Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
Place all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake until fully chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a Maraschino Cherry.
